Great-grandparents push for expanded rights to honor deceased boy
On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Family Law on Thursday, April 25, 2013. For people in Missouri who have grandchildren for whom they might want to have custody, court battles can end in heartbreak. While some judges do have concern for grandparents’ rights in child custody cases, oftentimes the presumption is that a child’s biological parents, if they are around, are the best choice to raise their children. However, many grandparents and even great-grandparents have tried to step in when they felt that the parents were not capable of handling the task. Unfortunately for them, their pleas
Fleetwood Mac drummer files for legal separation
On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Legal Separation on Monday, April 15, 2013. Separation laws vary from state to state. Some require a couple to be separated for a certain amount of time before filing for divorce, while others — like Missouri — do not require separation at all. In some cases though, even when not required, couples still chose the route of legal separation. Recently the topic of legal separation was brought up when it was announced that Grammy award winning drummer, Mick Fleetwood, filed for legal separation from his wife of close to 18 years.

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Unmarried Couples on Monday, April 8, 2013. More and more couples are living together without being married. While some of these unmarried couples do go on to get married one day, there are plenty others who have children and continue living together without the legally binding agreement of marriage. According to researchers, who surveyed 12,279 women between the ages of 15 and 44, three out of four women will end up living with a partner without being married to that person before the age of 30. A county attorney who was recently arrested after an alleged domestic violence incident claims the entire situation was a big misunderstanding. And while he claims the incident is something he and his wife are going to work through, in the meantime a special prosecutor is going to be deciding just how the case will be handled. Not much is known about the alleged domestic incident except that the county attorney was brought to jail on a misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury family
Supreme Court to hear arguments in Baby Veronica case
On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Family Law on Monday, March 25, 2013. For the first time in 14 years, the U.S. Supreme Court is getting ready to rule on whether the Indian Child Welfare Act can stop an adoption, even if that adoption was granted by the custodial parent and done in accordance with state law. The ruling is expected to set precedent to future ICWA cases. In this case, at hand is whether or not a non-custodial parent can invoke the ICWA in order to block an adoption from taking place. The ICWA was created
Unmarried parents face unique challenges in Missouri
On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Unmarried Couples on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Marriage is not necessarily for everyone. In fact, there are plenty of couples in Missouri who live together, share living expenses and have children, yet are not legally married. Of course, there is nothing wrong with these arrangements at all. However, when children are involved — and the parents split up — it can quickly become complicated. For example, let’s say a couple was together for 10 years. For half of that time the father stayed home to raise the children while the mother
