Paternity lawsuit filed against Kardashian seeks joint custody

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Unmarried Couples on Thursday, August 15, 2013.

While not apparent at first, it turns out many unwed fathers in Missouri may be able to relate to the recent paternity lawsuit filed against Kourtney Kardashian.  In fact, the recent lawsuit — regardless of how it turns out — highlights the importance of establishing paternity in order to ensure custodial rights.

The lawsuit against the eldest Kardashian sister was filed by a male model who claims to be the biological father of her toddler-aged son, Mason. This claim goes against the belief that her boyfriend Scott Disick — whom she has another child with — is the father.

The model, Michael Girgenti, wants a paternity test done in order to prove who the father of the child is. He is also seeking joint custody of Mason.

Lawyers for Kardashian are denying all of the allegations, with one attorney stating Kardashian’s boyfriend Disick is the father. The attorney claims this male model has been selling false stories to the tabloids for years and that this most recent lawsuit is just one more way for him to gain publicity.

At this point, a hearing has been set for next month.

For the Missouri father reading this, it highlights two important facts: The biological father of a child is often questioned when two parents are unmarried and that a DNA paternity test is one way to start the process of gaining parental rights.

Of course this Kardashian story may turn out to be nothing more than gossip, but it does go to show that legal action should be taken if there is ever any question as to who the father of a child is.
