Father awarded custody after mother became violent

Family law situations can quickly take a turn for the worst. And while for many families this means more arguing in court and going back-and-forth between who said what, for others the tension can lead to a domestic situation.

Recently this was the case for one father who was beat up by his ex. For the time being, he now has full custody of his son and the mother has been charged with interfering with custody, assault with a deadly weapon, battery, kidnapping and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

When looking at what happened, it was earlier in the day the father — who was spending time with his son — received several text messages from the boy’s mother where she was threatening his life. The father called police and showed them these messages.

Several hours later the mother showed up to his residence and took their son out of a window in the home. When the father ran outside to get his son back, he realized she had brought two other men with her.

At one point the father was pushed to the ground and his prosthetic foot was ripped off. After getting away from his ex, he started to chase the two men who had come with her. One of them had a PVC pipe and the other a wooden shaft. However, everything took a serious turn when the mother told the two men to move out of the way and was pointing a 12-gauge shotgun at her ex. At that point, he put his arms up in the air and the mother and two guys took off with his son.

Fortunately, in this situation, the mother was caught and the father was awarded full custody while the case plays out in court.

Of course, for any father this would be a frightening experience — not only having a child kidnapped — but also having one’s life threatened. In this case, the father did the best thing by calling police and not taking matters into his own hands. Hopefully, his next phone call will be to an attorney.
