A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper was recently put on leave from his job after he was arrested on a third-degree domestic assault charge. At this point, little is known except that the trooper was arrested after getting into some sort of altercation with his wife.
According to a spokesperson for the Columbia Police Department, the alleged domestic abuse incident took place on a Friday around 8:30 p.m. on Triple Crown Drive. The state trooper was arrested and put in jail on a $1,000 bond.
This recent incident involving this state highway patrol trooper brings up the issue of domestic violence in a relationship. In Missouri, there are strict laws that are in place, which are intended to protect those who are legitimately the victims of family violence.
The No. 1 thing to keep in mind is that no one in a family should have to put up with abuse or threats of abuse. If this is an issue, an order of protection should be issued. This short-term order of protection can turn into a long-term order with an order covering the possession of child custody, child support and property, such as a home and vehicle.
The idea behind this is that a spouse and children need to be kept safe. For children, stability is also very important during this time. Missouri spouses reading this also need to keep in mind that husbands and boyfriends are frequently the victims of domestic assault and have the same protections offered to them as women in order to keep themselves and their children safe.
