Study demonstrates the value of grandparents

As a grandparent, you likely believe that you can play an important role in your grandchild’s life. And as it happens, there is research that proves you are correct in this assumption. In fact, one study produced results that demonstrated the positive effects that grandparents can have when they have greater involvement with their grandchildren.

According to this study, adolescents who are 11 to 16 years of age who spent more time with their grandparents tended to be significantly more helpful and kind among their peers. These adolescents also exhibited significantly fewer emotional problems.

Moreover, grandparents can even help stimulate economic growth. When grandparents provide support and care during a child’s early years, it gives mothers the opportunity to get back into the workforce.

Having grandparents involved in family matters is beneficial in so many ways, and it is a shame when this fact is lost on a child’s parents. And in some cases, a grandparents influence or even intervention could be absolutely critical for a child’s health and well-being. For example, if the child’s parents are in the throes of drug or alcohol addiction, it may be that the grandparents are the only people in the family who can provide the child with a safe living environment.

If you are a grandparent who is having difficulty being granted visitation with your grandchild, you should be aware that you have rights. An attorney who is knowledgeable about grandparent’s rights can advise you on the steps that need to be taken to correct the situation. The attorney could act on your behalf to demonstrate that your presence in his or her life is in the child’s best interests.
